Considering a same-day crown but not sure what happens during the appointment? You’re not alone. Many patients are surprised to learn that you can restore a damaged or worn tooth with a permanent, custom crown in just one visit.

At Uptown Guelph Dental, we proudly offer CEREC same-day crowns for patients across Guelph North, Downtown Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Fergus & Elora. Here’s your complete walkthrough from consultation to crown placement.

What Happens at a One-Visit Crown Appointment?

  • The entire process takes about 60–120 minutes
  • We use digital scanning, 3D design, and in-house milling to create your crown
  • No temporary crown or follow-up needed
  • You leave with a strong, aesthetic, and permanent crown

Before Your Appointment

You’ll start with a free or standard exam, where we:

  • Assess your tooth with X-rays and digital tools
  • Confirm if you’re a candidate for same-day crowns
  • Review crown materials, shade matching, and pricing
  • Submit any insurance pre-approvals or provide a financing estimate

Step 1: Digital Scan (No Impressions!)

We begin by using a 3D intraoral scanner to capture your tooth and surrounding structures. This means:

  • No goopy impression trays
  • High-speed, accurate digital images
  • Better comfort and faster results

This scan provides the exact blueprint for designing your custom crown.

Step 2: 3D Crown Design

Next, we use CEREC CAD software to design your crown right in front of you:

  • Tooth shape and size are based on your natural anatomy
  • We ensure proper bite alignment and fit
  • You can view your custom design before it’s milled

This design process typically takes 15–20 minutes.

Step 3: On-Site Milling of the Crown

Once the crown is digitally approved, it’s sent to our on-site milling unit, which carves the crown from a high-strength ceramic or zirconia block.

  • Milling takes about 15–30 minutes
  • We offer materials like porcelain, E.max, and zirconia
  • Color matching is done using your natural teeth shade

While it mills, you can relax, enjoy music, or catch up on messages.

Step 4: Crown Placement & Adjustment

When the crown is ready:

  • We test fit and make minor adjustments for bite and comfort
  • The crown is bonded to your tooth with strong dental adhesive
  • Final refinements ensure smooth margins and even bite pressure

This step takes about 20–30 minutes. Most patients say it feels like a standard filling appointment.

Step 5: Final Polish & Home Care Instructions

We finish the process with:

  • A final polish for natural shine
  • Photos of your before and after (optional)
  • Instructions on eating, brushing, and avoiding hard foods for the first 24 hours

You’ll walk out with a fully functional, permanent crown no second visit needed.
